What's changing?

From October 1, 2026 (Reiwa 8), the Immigration Services Agency is raising residence permit fees. Status change and renewal go from ¥6,000 (¥5,500 online) to up to ¥75,000 (¥65,000 online), and permanent residency from ¥10,000 (counter) to ¥200,000. Applications filed by September 30, 2026 keep the current fee even if approval comes after October 1.

💳 Payment methods

Counter applications are paid with revenue stamps (cash purchase only). Online applications are paid by convenience store or bank transfer — credit cards are not accepted. Online filing adds a payment handling fee of ¥330–550.

Grace period

Applications filed by September 30, 2026 keep the pre-revision fee even if approval comes on or after October 1 (the filing date is what counts). New fees apply to applications filed from October 1 onward.
